Nigeria and Ghana Commit to Revitalising Museums and Tourism to Drive Economic Growth
Nigeria’s Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy reaffirmed the federal government’s plan to modernise museums across the country, focusing on infrastructure upgrades, improved conservation, greater public access and strategic partnerships. The initiative is presented as part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, linking cultural heritage to tourism growth, job creation and broader economic development.
Ghana’s Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts similarly pledged to transform the nation’s tourism, culture and creative arts sector into a major economic driver. At a high‑level stakeholder meeting, officials highlighted achievements such as the Ghana National Cultural Policy, UNESCO intangible heritage listings and the launch of a tourism satellite account. New initiatives—including the Afro Gastro Festival, a national photo competition and plans to host the 70th UN Tourism Commission for Africa session in 2027—were announced to boost domestic tourism, attract investment and enhance heritage conservation.
