Nigeria and Tanzania prepare for AFCON 2027 qualifying matches

Nigeria and Tanzania are set to face each other in a double-header for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign. The first match is scheduled for November 13 at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, followed by a return fixture in Dar es Salaam four days later.

Tanzania head coach Miguel Gamondi has announced a 24-man squad for the fixtures, featuring several players from the Tanzania Premier League, including representatives from Yanga FC and Azam FC. Foreign-based players such as Novatus Miroshi, Cyprian Kachewele, and Bernard Kamongo have also been called up.

For Nigeria, the matches are critical for their qualification hopes in Group L. While the November games against Tanzania are important, the final standings may ultimately be decided in March 2027 during matches against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau. Currently, Nigeria sits second in the group, three points behind leaders Guinea-Bissau.
