Nigeria and Thailand sign MoU to deepen economic and technical cooperation

Nigeria and Thailand have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on technical cooperation to strengthen bilateral economic and development ties. The agreement, signed in Abuja, establishes a framework for collaboration in sectors including agriculture, technology, renewable energy, ICT, and mining.

During high-level meetings in Abuja, Nigerian Vice President Kashim Shettima and Thai officials discussed elevating the relationship from traditional trade in crude oil and rice to a strategic partnership. Shettima emphasized Nigeria’s potential as a large market and a gateway to Africa, urging increased Thai investment in agro-processing and manufacturing.

Thailand introduced the ‘Thailand-Africa Initiative,’ which aims to boost economic and people-to-people ties across the continent. The partnership will also focus on skills development through cooperation between the Nigerian Technical Aid Corps and the Thailand International Cooperation Agency. Additionally, officials highlighted the importance of the Thailand-Nigeria Sustainable Agricultural Technology Development Project to enhance food security and productivity.
