Nigeria and United States deepen digital economy partnership

Nigeria and the United States discussed expanding cooperation on the digital economy, focusing on critical infrastructure such as submarine cables and data centres, the adoption of artificial intelligence, and the development of technical talent. Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy Bosun Tijani said the talks explored a government‑to‑government framework to reduce trade barriers and encourage U.S. firms to recruit from Nigeria’s Three Million Technical Talent (3MTT) programme.

At a BusinessDay CEO Forum, NCC executive Aminu Maida and NHIA chief Kelechi Ohiri stressed that Nigeria’s digital transformation also depends on building specialised skills and improving employee health. They called for sector‑specific training, preventive healthcare, and a whole‑of‑government approach to ensure the digital backbone supports productivity across the economy.
