Nigeria announces 2026 1xCup football championship and 29th Nigeria Golf Cup
Grassroots football stakeholders in Lagos have been briefed on the 2026 edition of the 1xCup tournament, the fourth edition of the competition. The event will feature 100 clubs drawn from Lagos State’s five traditional football divisions, with a prize pool of N20 million. Organisers say accredited scouts from clubs across Nigeria, Africa and Europe will attend the knockout stages to identify promising players, building on a record of more than 180 clubs and over 5,000 participants since the tournament began in 2023.
In parallel, Ikoyi Club 1938 in Lagos will host the 29th Nigeria Cup, the country’s longest‑running Independence Celebration Golf Championship, from 19 to 27 September 2026. The tournament, organized by the Ikoyi Golf Community Nigeria Association, aims to honour the event’s three‑decade legacy while raising standards in competition, hospitality and sponsorship. Chairman Olorogun Mohammed Oyibo highlighted the opportunity for partners to align with a tradition that reflects national pride and excellence.
