Nigeria announces new academic leadership appointments
The Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi, has appointed Dr Usman Dutse as its new Deputy Rector, effective September 1, 2026. The decision was approved by the institution's Governing Council following an election by the Academic Board. Dr Dutse, a former National President of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, previously served as the Director of Academic Planning and Quality Assurance.
In a related administrative move, Dr Hamisu Idi has been appointed as the Director of Academic Planning and Quality Assurance.
Separately, the Nigerian Federal Government has appointed Dr Olugbenga Awe as the pro-chancellor and chairman of the governing council for the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA). Dr Awe, an Associate Professor of Medicine, succeeds Senator Nora Ladi Daduut, who has transitioned to a role as the country’s Ambassador to South Korea.
