All Progressives Congress faces growing internal dissent and defections ahead of 2027 elections

Former Kano governor and NNPP leader Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso warned that several state governors are defecting to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) because they believe the presidency will write the election results in their favour for the 2027 polls.

In Kogi’s Okun region, APC officials urged absolute loyalty to Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, condemning any “anti‑party” activity and promising to discipline dissenting appointees. Meanwhile, in Osun State the APC and the Accord Party traded accusations over cracks in the newly opened Lameco flyover, each blaming the other for sabotage or poor contract awarding.

Former electricity regulator chief Sam Amadi described the APC as being in a “serious crisis” despite its grip on power, suggesting the party lacks genuine organization. In Kaduna, about 55 APC aspirants claimed the party leadership had neglected them after they stepped down to preserve unity, accusing the state government of rewarding rivals instead.

The Ondo State APC responded by forming a reconciliation committee to resolve grievances stemming from recent primaries. All these developments occur as the party prepares for the 2027 general elections, highlighting mounting internal challenges within Nigeria’s ruling coalition.
