Nigeria APC leaders split over Tinubu‑Shettima 2027 ticket

All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain Jonathan Vatsa warned that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s decision to retain Vice President Kashim Shettima as his running‑mate for the 2027 presidential election could alienate Christian voters. Vatsa called the repeated Muslim‑Muslim ticket “a grievous mistake” and said it risks losing Christian support in the upcoming election.

In contrast, APC director of finance Musa Illiyasu Kwankwaso praised the same decision, stating it strengthens the party’s prospects in the North and unites supporters. Kwankwaso said the TinubuShettima ticket is “the best development for the North and the APC,” and he expects strong backing from northern voters in 2027.
