Nigeria Army Halts Illegal Arms Network Tied to NSCDC and Correctional Service

Nigerian army troops conducting intelligence‑led operations in the South‑East arrested three security officers suspected of running an illegal arms‑supply network. The detainees include Assistant Superintendent II Obaji Sampson and Superintendent Tasie Victor Nnamdi of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and Assistant Superintendent of Corrections Ekwuene Onyebuchi Clement of the Nigerian Correctional Service. Arrests were made between June 28 and June 30 after interrogations linked the officers to the provision of firearms and ammunition to criminal elements in Enugu State.

Operations by the Joint Task Force South East, the 82 Division Provost Group and other army units recovered 30 rounds of 9 mm Luger ammunition, several firearms, Dane guns, pistols, cartridges, explosives‑making materials and other military equipment. Additional raids in Cross River State seized two Dane guns, a locally made pistol, cannabis‑like substances and further ammunition. All suspects and seized items are in military custody while investigations continue to identify other participants in the network.
