The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) confirmed that former Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Geoffrey Uchechukwu Nnaji was arrested on 1 July 2026 at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja. Operatives from the Department of State Services assisted in executing a bench warrant issued by the Federal High Court (Suit No FHC/ABJ/CS/1160/2026) after Nnaji repeatedly ignored formal invitations to appear for questioning sent to his Abuja and Enugu addresses and email on 15 May 2026.

The arrest concerns allegations that Nnaji forged a degree certificate from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and presented a false National Youth Service Corps discharge certificate during his ministerial screening in 2023. He was transferred to the ICPC headquarters in Abuja, where he remains in custody pending further investigation. The ICPC’s statement, signed by Head of Media and Public Communications J. Okor Odey, pledged that the case will be pursued diligently in accordance with the law.
