Nigeria ASUU strikes suspend university exams and threaten action over unpaid salaries

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at Adekunle Ajasin University (AAUA) in Ondo State began an indefinite strike on 10 July 2026 after the state government failed to pay lecturers’ May and June salaries. The strike halted the university’s second‑semester examinations that were due to start on Monday, leaving students uncertain about rescheduling and causing frustration for those nearing graduation.

At the Federal University of Agriculture, Zuru (FUAZ), ASUU issued a 21‑day ultimatum on 28 July 2026 demanding the payment of five months of accumulated Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance, the implementation of the 2025 federal‑ASUU agreement, and a 40 % salary review. The union says federal funds were released to other universities but FUAZ was excluded, prompting a warning of possible industrial action if the demands are not met.
