Nigeria Aviation Minister announces new airport infrastructure projects

Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has announced two major infrastructure developments aimed at modernizing the country’s aviation sector.

In Abuja, Keyamo commissioned a N10 billion state-of-the-art inflight catering facility at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport. Built by Sky Chef Things Remembered Services, the facility is designed to supply meals for outbound international flights. This follows a 2024 federal directive requiring international airlines operating in Nigeria to contract local catering companies as a condition for flight schedule approval.

In Lagos, Keyamo has approved the design for a new monorail intended to link the Ikeja Railway Station to Murtala Muhammed International Airport. The proposed line will feature five stops: Ikeja Station, Domestic Airport Station, Beesam Station, Toll Gate Station, and the MMI Airport Station at Terminal 1. The project is part of a broader effort to modernize the airport, with discussions regarding funding currently underway.
