Nigeria aviation sector sees leadership honors and academic partnerships
Engr. Farouk Ahmed Umar, Managing Director of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), and Ibrahim Usman Auyo, the agency’s pioneer Managing Director, have been nominated for induction into the 2027 Nigeria Aviation Hall of Fame (NAHF).
Umar was selected in recognition of his leadership and service record. Auyo, who played a key role in the establishment of NAMA in 1999 following recommendations from the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), was also honored for his contributions to the sector. After his tenure at NAMA, Auyo was recruited by ICAO to oversee air navigation for 24 African nations.
In a separate development within the Nigerian aviation sector, the African Aviation and Aerospace University (AAAU) in Abuja and Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) in Zaria have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance aeronautical and space engineering capacity. The partnership aims to establish a Faculty of Aeronautical and Space Engineering at AAAU and includes collaboration on Online Distance Learning (ODL) to provide flexible training for professionals and international students.
