Nigeria Aviation Unions Issue 7-Day Ultimatum Over Unpaid Ticket Sales Levy
Nigeria’s aviation workers, represented by the Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN) and the National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE), have issued a fresh seven‑day ultimatum to airline operators and other organisations that have failed to remit the statutory five‑percent Ticket Sales Charge (TSC). The demand follows the expiration of an earlier 14‑day notice on July 23, after airlines stopped collecting and forwarding the levy to the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and other aviation agencies.
The unions warn that continued non‑payment is starving aviation agencies of funds needed for safety, security and regulatory oversight, and that it jeopardises the welfare of their members. They threaten nationwide picketing if the outstanding charges are not settled within the new deadline, citing a risk to the country’s aviation safety and security.
