Nigeria Basketball Federation faces leadership disputes and constitutional concerns

The Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) is facing internal scrutiny regarding a proposed Congress scheduled to take place in Yola. Critics have raised concerns over potential breaches of the federation’s 2019 Constitution, specifically regarding the notice period provided to members and the procedure for convening the meeting. Some stakeholders argue that the National Sports Commission (NSC) should intervene to ensure constitutional compliance, noting that the federation has not held a Congress in approximately three years.

Amidst these administrative disputes, Mustapha Abdullahi, a candidate for the NBBF presidency, has called for unity and results-driven leadership. Abdullahi, who previously served as Director-General of the Energy Commission of Nigeria, emphasized that sustainable growth for Nigerian basketball requires collective effort from players, coaches, and administrators. He stated that leadership must focus on turning opportunities into tangible outcomes and creating a structured environment for all stakeholders to contribute to the sport's development.
