Nigeria launches housing projects for civil servants and military

The Nigerian Federal Government has launched several housing initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of public sector workers. In Abuja, construction has commenced on the Renewed Hope Civil Service Estate in Gwagwalada. This project, a partnership between the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development and the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, will provide 250 two- and three-bedroom bungalows for federal civil servants.

Additionally, the Federal Executive Council has approved the purchase of 600 four-bedroom terrace duplexes at Bristow City, Life Camp, Abuja, specifically for members of the Armed Forces. This latest approval brings the total number of housing units provided for military personnel to 2,656, as part of a broader government target to deliver 10,000 units over a five-year period.

Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Muttaqha Rabe Darma, noted that while construction costs have risen due to expensive materials, the government remains committed to delivering these subsidized units. The ministry aims to move from policy announcements to active delivery, with some units scheduled for completion as early as August.
