Nigeria celebrates World Teachers' Day with awards and digital reforms

Nigeria's recent World Teachers' Day celebrations focused on five key pillars: innovation, mobility, Artificial Intelligence, inclusion, and professional excellence. The event included a symposium, a march-past featuring cultural attire and state flags, and the recognition of 14 awardees. Notably, the top three teachers received car gifts as part of the honors.

Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Ahmad, announced that the selection process for the 2026 World Teachers' Day awards has been digitized to enhance transparency, accountability, and efficiency.

World Teachers' Day, observed annually on October 5, commemorates the 1966 ILO/UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers, which establishes benchmarks for teacher rights, responsibilities, and professional standards.
