Nigeria cement prices remain high amid rising energy costs

Cement prices in Nigeria remain high, placing significant financial pressure on contractors, builders, and homeowners. A 50kg bag of cement currently retails between ₦12,000 and ₦14,000, with prices varying by brand and location.

Major brands including Dangote Cement, BUA Cement, and Mangal Cement are priced at approximately ₦12,000 per bag. Lafarge Cement is slightly higher at roughly ₦12,200, while Linma White Cement is the most expensive at about ₦14,000. The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission reported that in some regions, prices have reached as high as ₦15,000.

Rising energy costs are identified as a primary driver of these elevated prices. Because cement production is energy-intensive, manufacturers rely heavily on gas, coal, and diesel. Emmanuel Ikazoboh, Chairman of Dangote Cement, noted that energy accounts for approximately 60 per cent of the company’s total production costs.
