Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority to deploy RFID technology for baggage tracking

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has announced plans to implement Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology at Nigerian airports. The initiative aims to address frequent passenger complaints regarding lost, delayed, damaged, or misrouted baggage.

According to Michael Achimugu, the NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, the system will allow passengers to monitor their luggage through a dedicated application. This tracking will cover the entire process from check-in to aircraft loading and final arrival. The technology is intended to flag discrepancies during processing to prevent bags from being sent to incorrect destinations and to provide airlines with a clear record of a bag’s last known location.
