Nigeria courts sentence fraud offenders in Maiduguri and Kaduna

Justice B. T. Zannah of the Borno State High Court in Maiduguri sentenced Yagana Musa Mohammed to six months’ imprisonment, with a possible N50,000 fine, after she pleaded guilty to misappropriating N3.5 million. The money, belonging to Mohammed Tukur Yaji, was taken under the false pretense that she could secure him a job in the State of Qatar.

In Kaduna, Justice Amina Shuaibu handed down an eight‑year prison term to businessman Gbotemi Adebiyi for obtaining N29 million through deception and issuing a post‑dated cheque that later bounced. He was ordered to repay the full amount within 30 days or face an additional two years in prison. Both cases were prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
