Nigeria Customs advances AfCFTA interoperability and expands Afreximbank partnership

Comptroller‑General Adewale Adeniyi highlighted the need for interoperable customs systems across Africa, calling it essential for the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Customs Modernisation Project. The statement was made in Lagos during the signing of a 20‑year public‑private partnership between the AfCFTA Secretariat and Nigerian firm Bergmans Security, a milestone for Nigeria’s own customs digital transformation.

Adeniyi also reaffirmed Nigeria Customs Service’s collaboration with the African Export‑Import Bank (Afreximbank) after a visit by the bank’s President Dr George Elombi to Abuja. The partnership aims to deepen trade‑facilitation measures, support one‑stop border posts, and build on the Customs Partnership for African Cooperation in Trade (C‑PACT) to harmonise procedures and boost intra‑African trade.
