Nigeria Customs Intercepts Rifle Parts and Cannabis Snacks at Lagos Port

The Nigeria Customs Service seized a container at Tin Can Island Port in Lagos that concealed knock‑down components for pump‑action rifles and a large quantity of cannabis‑infused snack products. The shipment, which arrived on 8 July 2026 aboard the vessel MV Velika, was flagged by intelligence and examined, revealing parts that could assemble about 140 rifles and cannabis‑infused cookies, gummies and pre‑rolls valued at roughly N373.8 million.

Comptroller‑General Adewale (Bashir) Adeniyi announced that two suspects were arrested – one on 31 July 2026 at a bonded terminal – while a third principal suspect remains at large. He warned that the firearms and the appealing, flavored cannabis products pose serious threats to national security and public health, especially to children and young people. The operation highlights the service’s intensified border surveillance and its commitment to disrupting transnational arms trafficking and drug smuggling networks.
