Nigeria Customs seizes ₦59 million of expired drugs, hands to NAFDAC

The Nigeria Customs Service’s Port Harcourt Area I Command intercepted a consignment of expired pharmaceutical products valued at over ₦59 million during a joint cargo examination on 29 July 2026. The seized drugs were formally handed over to the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) at the command headquarters in Port Harcourt, in the presence of representatives from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, the Department of State Services and other security and industry bodies.

Customs Area Controller Comptroller Salamatu Atuluku said the operation demonstrated the service’s commitment to preventing harmful and prohibited medicines from entering the Nigerian market. NAFDAC officials confirmed that the agency will begin regulatory procedures to safely dispose of the expired medicaments, aiming to protect public health and avert severe health consequences for Nigerians.
