Nigeria Customs Service and Ethiopia explore climate action partnership

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and the Ethiopian Embassy in Nigeria are exploring collaboration on climate action, environmental protection, and sustainable development. During a visit to the NCS Headquarters in Abuja, officials discussed expanding the role of customs administrations to include the preservation of endangered species and environmental conservation alongside traditional revenue collection and anti-smuggling duties.

As part of these efforts, the Customs Officers Wives Association (COWA) is leading the ‘Green Border Sustainability Initiative’. COWA President Kikelomo Adeniyi reported that the association has planted 14,822 trees across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones and border areas over the last eight months. The association plans to launch a new initiative in September to plant 35,000 additional trees, aiming for 1,000 trees in each state to promote environmental awareness and community responsibility.
