Nigeria Customs Service approved 2026 budget with N11.1 trillion revenue target

The Senate unanimously approved the Nigeria Customs Service’s 2026 budget, setting a revenue target of N11.074 trillion and an expenditure estimate of N1.295 trillion. The plan follows a 2025 performance in which the agency generated about N7.2 trillion, exceeding its N6.5 trillion target by more than N600 billion.

The strong results are attributed to reforms led by Comptroller‑General Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, including the rollout of the indigenous Unified Customs Information System (UCIS, nicknamed B’Odogwu), enhanced anti‑smuggling operations, and a focus on trade facilitation. The service has been recognised as the most improved government agency for ease of doing business, reflecting its growing role as an economic powerhouse supporting Nigeria’s fiscal sustainability.
