Nigeria Customs Service Calls for Strategic Communication Overhaul at Port Harcourt Conference

The Comptroller‑General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Adewale Adeniyi, addressed Public Relations officers at the closing ceremony of the four‑day 2026 Nigeria Customs Service Public Relations Conference in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. He urged the shift from routine media engagement to a proactive, research‑driven, intelligence‑led approach, citing the rise of digital media, artificial intelligence and real‑time information. Adeniyi emphasized that reforms, trade‑facilitation initiatives and seizure operations must be communicated professionally to build public trust and institutional credibility.

Acting Zonal Coordinator Pascal Chibuoke described corporate communication as a strategic asset that shapes perception and reinforces legitimacy, while Deputy Comptroller Abdullahi Maiwada called the conference a milestone that builds on successes in Lagos, Gwagwalada and Kano, aiming to develop practical solutions and strengthen professional networks for the service’s transformation journey.
