Nigeria Customs Service exempts duties on CNG, LPG and electric vehicles

The Nigeria Customs Service announced a 100 % exemption from import duty and Value Added Tax for eligible compressed natural gas (CNG), liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and electric vehicles, including extended‑range electric vehicles with at least 200 km of range. The incentives also cover CNG/LPG conversion kits, certified tricycles and motorcycles, and semi‑trailers fitted with gas storage tanks, provided importers obtain an Import Duty Exemption Certificate from the Federal Ministry of Finance.

Excluded from the waiver are hybrid electric models, dual‑fuel engines, luxury vehicles priced above US$100,000, overseas‑converted CNG units without factory fittings, non‑self‑driven semi‑trailers and spare parts. The measures are part of President Bola Tinubu’s Presidential Gas for Growth Initiative, aimed at accelerating clean‑energy adoption, lowering transport costs and strengthening Nigeria’s energy security.
