Nigeria Customs Western Marine Command office gutted by fire in Lagos
A fire broke out at the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Western Marine Command office in Apapa, Lagos, on Monday, September 28, 2026. The blaze reportedly began around 10:23 a.m. following an electrical surge in the command’s conference room, subsequently spreading to other sections of the building, including a newly constructed conference hall.
While no lives were lost or injuries recorded, the fire destroyed property and office equipment estimated to be worth millions of naira, including important documents. The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service arrived at the scene between 10:45 a.m. and 11:25 a.m. to bring the flames under control.
The incident occurred shortly after Deputy Comptroller of Customs Timothy Jonah assumed his new role at the command. Jonah stated that a committee would be established to investigate the cause of the fire and that the command would review and strengthen its safety protocols to prevent future occurrences. The command assured stakeholders that core operations remain unaffected.
