Nigeria Customs Service reviews 397 disqualified recruitment applicants
The Nigeria Customs Service has initiated a reassessment of 397 recruitment applicants who were disqualified during a recent screening exercise. This decision follows complaints from candidates who reported being shortlisted but were subsequently prevented from attending the service’s training college.
Comptroller-General Bashir Adewale Adeniyi ordered the case-by-case review after meeting with several aggrieved applicants. Customs spokesperson Abdullahi Maiwada stated that the exercise aims to address genuine grievances. However, the service clarified that being included on a shortlist does not guarantee final employment, as candidates must still pass requirements regarding medical examinations, physical fitness, age verification, drug screening, and document authentication.
Disqualifications were previously attributed to issues such as substance abuse, medical concerns, age discrepancies, and document irregularities. The service warned that the review will not automatically qualify candidates for admission and noted that individuals found to have engaged in certificate fraud or other criminal activities could face legal prosecution.
