Nigeria Customs Service selects 3,852 candidates from 573,000 applicants

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has concluded its 2024 recruitment exercise, selecting 3,852 successful candidates from a pool of 573,680 applicants. This represents an acceptance rate of approximately one in every 148 applicants.

Competition was particularly intense for the Inspectorate Cadre, which received 128,604 applications for only 367 available positions. The selection process included application screening, computer-based examinations, and credential verification against the national identity database.

Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, apologized for the delay in releasing the final list, which was expected to conclude much sooner after the process opened in December 2024. Adeniyi attributed the delay to the massive volume of applications, extensive verification requirements, and turnover among senior management personnel.

Successful candidates will now proceed to physical and medical assessments, followed by a final review at the Board level. The final allocation of positions includes representation from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
