Nigeria Customs Service advances modernization and security initiatives

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) is implementing several strategic initiatives to enhance national security and trade facilitation. A delegation of experts from the NCS and Trade Modernisation Project Limited (TMPL) recently completed a two-week Factory Acceptance Test in China for newly acquired Non-Intrusive Inspection (NII) equipment and an Electronic Cargo Tracking System (ECTS). These advanced scanners and tracking systems are designed to improve cargo examination, reduce dwell times, and detect prohibited items while minimizing the need for physical inspections.

In addition to technological upgrades, the NCS is strengthening inter-agency cooperation. The Western Marine Command has reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with the Nigerian Navy to combat smuggling and secure maritime waterways through improved intelligence sharing and joint operations.

Furthermore, the NCS will host two major conferences in Abuja this December: the Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC) Conference and the Customs Partnership for African Cooperation in Trade (C-PACT) 2026 Conference. These events aim to address border management challenges, promote regional economic integration, and discuss digital transformation in customs operations.
