Nigeria Data Protection Commission warns of fake traffic violation scams
The Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) has issued a warning to citizens regarding malicious electronic messages. These fraudulent communications falsely claim that recipients have committed traffic violations or other offenses to create a sense of urgency and fear.
The NDPC noted that while these phishing attempts were previously conducted primarily through email, they are now being transmitted through various other electronic channels. The commission advised the public to verify the authenticity of any such messages through trusted, independent contact methods and to avoid clicking on links or following instructions from unverified sources.
To enhance account security, the NDPC also recommended that Nigerians use strong, unique passwords and change them immediately if they suspect a compromise.
