Nigeria deepens diplomatic ties with the United States and Gambia
The United States sent its newly confirmed Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, Frank Garcia, on a visit to Nigeria, meeting National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu and senior ministers to discuss security, trade and the protection of Christian communities. The U.S. mission described the talks as “productive,” noting that “Nigeria is a strategic partner across numerous sectors.”
Later, Nigeria’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Sola Enikanolaiye, and Gambia’s Foreign Minister, Sering Modou Njie, agreed to revive the Nigeria‑Gambia Joint Commission and broaden cooperation in key sectors. Enikanolaiye said “The Nigeria‑Gambia bilateral relations have been excellent over the years,” adding that the two nations intend to “enhance and deepen the brotherly ties” and explore new collaborative opportunities.
