Nigeria defeats Senegal in African Nations Championship classification match

Nigeria’s women’s volleyball team, known as the Green Spikers, defeated Senegal 3-1 in a classification match at the 2026 CAVB Women’s African Nations Championship in Nairobi. The victory moves Nigeria closer to its goal of a top-10 finish in the tournament.

After winning the first set 25-17, Nigeria lost a close second set 26-24 to Senegal. However, the Nigerian side responded by dominating the third set 25-12 and securing the match with a 25-20 win in the fourth. Statistical advantages for Nigeria included 10 aces compared to Senegal’s one, 12 blocks to Senegal’s five, and 44 kills to Senegal’s 36.

Coach Elishama Elam noted that the win provides a significant confidence boost for the team. He credited Nigeria’s experience as a deciding factor in the competitive match and acknowledged the improvement of the youthful Senegalese squad.
