Nigeria Defence Headquarters confirms official X account hack

The Nigerian Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has confirmed that its official X account, which has over 980,000 followers, was compromised by unauthorized users. The breach was identified after the account was flooded with cryptocurrency-related posts unrelated to military operations.

Major General Samaila Uba, the spokesperson for the Defence Headquarters, stated that the incident is being treated as a cybersecurity matter. Technical measures have been activated to secure the account and prevent further unauthorized access, and efforts are currently underway to restore full control.

Authorities have urged the public, media, and stakeholders to disregard any suspicious, misleading, or deceptive content posted from the account during this period. To ensure access to accurate information regarding combat operations and military hierarchy, the DHQ advised citizens to use its verified channels on Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.
