Nigeria Defence Minister Christopher Musa backs basketball camp and sports recruitment drive
Defence Minister General Christopher Musa visited a three‑day basketball camp in Umuahia, Abia State, organised by the Crossover Foundation with support from the state government. He praised basketball as an exciting sport and highlighted its potential to discover and develop young talent, offering pathways to professional opportunities and scholarships abroad.
Musa announced that the Nigerian Armed Forces will use organised sports as a recruitment pipeline, creating programmes to identify promising athletes and combine sporting excellence with military careers. He also unveiled plans for a South‑East Regional Basketball Championship and donated ₦2 million to the camp, with backing from diaspora players Godsgift Achiuwa and Precious Achiuwa. The initiative aims to foster discipline, leadership and national unity among Nigeria’s youth.
