Nigeria Defence Minister claims security improves under Tinubu, urges responsible leadership

On 21 May 2026 in Abuja, Defence Minister General Christopher Musa said Nigeria’s security outlook is gradually improving under President Bola Tinubu’s leadership. He noted that continued federal support has boosted the armed forces’ capacity and that the military is working closely with the United States and other allied nations to confront insecurity.

Musa warned that criminal networks persist because some communities still support them, adding, “If all Nigerians decide today that there will be no more support for criminals, I can assure you that within one month, these security challenges would largely become things of the past.” He called on citizens to remain vigilant, report suspicious activity, and support security operations.

The minister also urged Nigerians to elect “credible and visionary” leaders, stating that “we do not need criminal‑minded individuals in leadership positions.” He appealed for broader political participation and warned against voting based on ethnicity, religion, or vote‑selling. The remarks were made after the commissioning of the annex branch of Haam Legal Consult Services, where Musa praised the firm and its principal partner, Barrister Aliyu Anas, for public‑service contributions.
