Nigeria defender Ashleigh Plumptre signs contract extension with Saudi club Al Ittihad until 2028
Nigeria’s Super Falcons defender Ashleigh Plumptre has agreed a new two‑year contract with Saudi Women’s Premier League side Al Ittihad Ladies, extending her stay until 2028. The 28‑year‑old joined the club on a free transfer in September 2023 after leaving Leicester City and has become a key figure, recording 15 goals and 19 assists in 41 appearances.
Plumptre’s extension comes as she recovers from a foot injury that kept her out of Nigeria’s squad for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations. She was part of the Super Falcons team that captured a record‑extending tenth title at the 2024 WAFCON finals. The new deal underlines Al Ittihad’s confidence in her defensive versatility and highlights the growing appeal of Saudi women’s football for African talent.
