Nigeria Democratic Congress faces Kaduna governorship ticket dispute
The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) is facing an internal dispute regarding its governorship candidate for the 2027 election in Kaduna State. Party Chairman Mordecai Ibrahim announced that the party has not yet produced a valid candidate, despite competing claims from Barrister Mohammed Sani Abbas and former Senator Danjuma La’ah.
Ibrahim stated that he was the party’s recognized candidate until his voluntary withdrawal, which he claims was formally communicated to the NDC National Chairman and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Due to the ongoing controversy and the lack of a clear winner, Ibrahim indicated that the party must conduct a substitution primary to resolve the matter.
While Abbas maintains he legitimately secured the ticket, various party factions have questioned the validity of the nominations. The NDC leadership has urged voters to disregard competing claims until the appropriate legal and internal processes are completed.
