Nigeria Democratic Congress threatens legal action against INEC in Kano
The Kano State chapter of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has threatened to sue the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) regarding the exclusion of its governorship candidate, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, from the 2027 election list.
NDC State Chairman Husseini Mairiga stated that the party is prepared to seek legal redress if the commission fails to resolve the complaint, noting that the October 24 deadline for grievances has passed without a response. Mairiga maintains that Gwarzo is a duly registered and qualified member of the party.
In a related development, NDC lawyers have petitioned the INEC Chairman to investigate Hauwa Buhari, the Head of Department for Election and Party Monitoring in Kano. The petition alleges that Buhari issued multiple, materially inconsistent monitoring reports concerning the party’s primary elections. The legal team claims some versions of the reports were undated or excluded authentic candidates while including individuals not nominated by the party.
