Nigeria Declares May 27‑28, 2026 Public Holidays for Eid‑ul‑Adha
The Federal Government of Nigeria announced that Wednesday, 27 May and Thursday, 28 May 2026 will be public holidays to mark the celebration of Eid‑ul‑Adha. The declaration was made by Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji‑Ojo and signed by Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior Dr Magdalene Ajani. The statement said the holidays affirm the government’s respect for the faith and spiritual heritage of millions of Nigerian Muslims and urged all citizens to use the period for prayer, reflection and renewed commitment to national unity, peace, security and prosperity.
Nigeria’s population is roughly evenly split between Christians and Muslims, and major religious festivals such as Eid‑ul‑Adha are routinely recognised as national holidays, reflecting the country’s commitment to religious inclusiveness.
