Niger Delta Development Commission launches 200‑solar‑light project at Auchi Polytechnic

The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has started installing 200 solar‑powered street lights at Auchi Polytechnic in Edo State. Director of Community and Rural Development Mathias Ikpefua said the initiative forms part of a wider 245‑light scheme that also includes 45 lights for the neighbouring Igbei community, intended to boost night‑time visibility and security on campus.

The contractor, Tosamila Global Resources Ltd, represented by Jonathan Ibrahim, confirmed that work began immediately and will be completed within the agreed schedule. Deputy Rector (Administration) Dr Edith Oyati praised the project as a major contribution to the institution’s development, urging the contractor to adhere to approved specifications. The lighting is expected to create a safer learning environment for staff and students.
