Nigeria domestic airlines recorded 4,765 flight delays in August

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) reported significant operational disruptions in Nigeria’s domestic aviation sector during August 2026. Out of 7,961 scheduled flights operated by 15 carriers, 4,765 flights experienced delays, representing a delay rate of approximately 59.9 percent. Only 36 flights, or 0.45 percent of total operations, were cancelled.

United Nigeria Airlines recorded the highest delay rate at approximately 76.6 percent, with 943 delays out of 1,231 flights, and also saw the highest number of cancellations with eight recorded. Air Peace reported the highest total volume of delays, with 1,330 delayed flights out of 1,864 operations, a delay rate of 71.4 percent.

Other notable disruptions included Enugu Air, which had 582 delays out of 878 flights, and ValueJet, which recorded 435 delays. Most delays lasted between 16 minutes and one hour, though Air Peace accounted for 108 of the 235 flights that were delayed by three hours or more.
