Nigeria D’Tigers announce roster for FIBA World Cup qualifiers
Nigeria’s national basketball team, the D’Tigers, has entered the second round of the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup African Qualifiers. Head coach David Fizdale has named a 12-man roster for the upcoming campaign, which includes NBA guard Josh Okogie, Chimezie Metu, and Chima Moneke. Moneke’s inclusion marks his return to official senior international competition for the first time since February 2021.
Nigeria is placed in Group E alongside Cameroon, South Sudan, Guinea, Tunisia, and Cape Verde. The fourth qualifying window is scheduled to take place in Radès, Tunisia, from August 24 to September 1, 2026. The D’Tigers are set to open their matches against Cameroon on August 27, followed by South Sudan on August 28, and Cape Verde on August 30.
Teams will carry their results from the first round into this second phase. To qualify for the 2027 World Cup in Qatar, the top two teams from each group, along with the best third-placed team, must secure their spots.
