Nigeria D’Tigers face qualification pressure after consecutive losses
Nigeria’s men’s national basketball team, the D’Tigers, have suffered two consecutive defeats in the second round of the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup African Qualifiers. The team lost 78-62 to Cameroon before falling 82-79 to South Sudan in Radès, Tunisia.
Following the loss to Cameroon, which highlighted offensive struggles, the team faced a highly competitive match against South Sudan. Despite a late surge led by Josh Okogie, who scored 14 points, Nigeria could not overcome the Bright Stars in the closing stages.
The back-to-back losses have placed Nigeria’s qualification hopes under significant pressure. The team now faces a crucial upcoming fixture against Cape Verde to maintain their bid for the 2027 World Cup in Qatar.
