Nigeria EFCC Chairman Olukoyede warns officials against corruption

EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede addressed the newly appointed leadership of the South‑South Development Commission at an induction programme in Abuja, cautioning public officials that their positions are not an opportunity to misappropriate public resources.

He warned that corruption in Nigeria’s public service results in losses of billions of naira each year, citing diversion of funds, bribery, kickbacks, payroll and pension fraud, and emphasizing that contract fraud is the most prevalent. Olukoyede described tactics such as contract splitting, bid manipulation, awarding contracts to unqualified firms, and payments for incomplete or poorly executed projects. He urged officials to follow the Financial Regulations, Public Service Rules and Public Procurement Act, noting challenges such as limited resources and weak public support in the fight against corruption.
