Nigeria electricity distributors collect N220.93bn in August

Nigeria’s electricity distribution companies (DisCos) collected N220.93 billion from customers in August, marking a 7.49% increase from the N205.53 billion recorded in July. According to the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), the companies billed customers N261.10 billion, resulting in a collection efficiency of 84.62%.

The industry’s overall revenue recovery efficiency rose to 77.63%, an improvement of 2.71 percentage points from the previous month. Performance varied significantly by region: Eko DisCo achieved the highest recovery efficiency at 96.29%, while Kaduna recorded the lowest at 41.90%.

In a separate development, the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has called for greater transparency regarding community investments in electricity infrastructure. During a town hall in Lagos, the FCCPC addressed ongoing consumer complaints in the Ikeja Electric and Eko Electricity franchise areas, including issues such as arbitrary billing, metering delays, and poor service quality.
