Nigeria electricity generation reaches 5,403 MW

Nigeria’s total available electricity generation reached 5,403.3 megawatts on Tuesday, September 22, 2026. This figure represents approximately 93 per cent of the country’s all-time instantaneous generation peak of 5,801.84 megawatts, which was recorded in March 2025.

Data from the National Control Centre of the Transmission Company of Nigeria indicates that 4,379.07 megawatts were allocated for delivery to electricity distribution companies. The remaining 1,024.18 megawatts were classified as exempted loads and other system requirements.

Minister of Power Joseph Tegbe noted that the sector has recently seen generation and transmission levels exceeding 5,000 megawatts, marking an improvement from the 3,700 to 4,700 megawatt range observed prior to June.
