Dangote Refinery secures SEC approval for landmark IPO
The Nigerian Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has approved the Initial Public Offering (IPO) of Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals FZE. The offering is expected to comprise 4.1 billion ordinary shares priced at ₦525 per share, with the potential to raise approximately ₦2.15 trillion ($1.6 billion) if fully subscribed. The order book is anticipated to open around September 14, 2026.
Aliko Dangote intends to use the capital raised to double the refinery's current capacity from 700,000 barrels per day to 1.4 million barrels per day. This expansion aims to position the facility as one of the largest refining complexes globally and reduce regional dependence on imported fuel.
In a broader strategic move, Dangote also announced plans to expand his industrial footprint into East Africa. This includes breaking ground on September 30 for a new 700,000-barrel-per-day refinery on Lamu Island, Kenya, in partnership with regional governments. Additionally, Dangote Cement is expected to pursue a secondary listing on the London Stock Exchange, likely in October.
