Nigeria Enforces Registration for PoS Operators

The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has ordered all FirstMonie point‑of‑sale (PoS) operators to register under the Companies and Allied Matters Act, urging banks to block transactions from unregistered entities and stressing the need for corporate compliance and transparency.

A Federal High Court ruling affirmed the Nigeria Data Protection Commission's (NDPC) authority to require PoS agents to register as Data Controllers and Processors of Major Importance under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023, rejecting a challenge to the registration requirement. The decision reinforces data‑protection enforcement and obliges affected operators to comply immediately to avoid legal sanctions.
